Poverty and Data Initiative (PADI), Mombasa Kenya, May 2004

This two-day training organised by the World Bank’s PADI initiative focused on conceptual and methodological issues with respect to poverty monitoring and measurement as well as the country experience of Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.

Mixed Methods of Poverty Measurement and Monitoring (click to download powerpoint presentation 200KB )

The training module has two primary objectives. First, to present a conceptual framework which distinguishes between different types of mixed method (Q2) analyses of poverty measurement & monitoring. Second, to situate a number of empirical examples of Q2 approaches within this framework and examine issues raised by each. Core conclusions are that more attention should focus on the differences between approaches which limit the extent of integration and that methodological choice should be driven by the informational requirements of the research exercise.
